After seemingly endless delays, the GoPro Karma drone is now finally on sale.

The delays have come thick and fast since March and since then a crowded marketplace has welcomed even more contenders. They include to DJI Mavic Pro, which is arguably the Karma’s clearest rival.

As for the GoPro drone, if you already own then Hero5 Black or Hero5 Session then you’ll need to spend $800 on the drone itself. Otherwise you can save $100 with an $1100 Karma bundle that includes the drone and the Hero5 Black edition.

The lightweight DJI Mavic Pro costs $999, so these drones are clearly aimed at the same price point and it will come down to the feature set. The DJI is lighter, faster and boasts a longer flight time, according to the manufacturers’ own numbers. It also has C4K image quality, a ‘follow me’ function, obstacle avoidance and return home functionality.

The Karma doesn’t have these, but GoPro has built a formidable reputation in the action camera space. Clearly that counts for something, but it remains to be seen whether the drone is as good as the lightweight cameras that maintain their market position despite a glut of low-price alternatives hitting the market.

We’ll find out soon enough and you can order yours right here.
